 The
best standard wheelchairs are comfortable, fold easily, and have a
pair of toggle brakes. The swing away footrests or elevating leg
rests are adjustable and detachable. The soft padded desk or full
length arm rests are removable on some models. A transport
folding wheelchair has four 8" wheels, is collapsible, and weighs
about half the weight of a standard wheelchair, but requires an
assistant to push the chair.
For more than 20 years, Invacare has set the standard in manual
wheelchairs for the health care industry. There are certainly
cheaper chairs out there that you can choose from, but there is no
doubt in my mind that that is exactly what you will get - a
"cheaper" chair (please read my "rant" on this in the
FAQ section).
There are chairs being unloaded at our nation's coastal docks
everyday from third-world countries with weak frames, jagged edges,
and plastic bushings in the wheels instead of sealed bearings.
If you go by price alone, these chairs will sell for less money -
I
just don't want my mother to be sitting in one. And if I won't
buy one for my family, I certainly won't sell you one for yours.
